In March 8 and 9, the nordic ski arena of Holmenkollen (Oslo – Norway) has been the stage for the FIS Cross Country World Cup, where the twin-track snowmobile Sherpa 1.6 has been adopted for many different tasks. Beside the well known use of Sherpas, for people transportation and for grooming the nordic ski trails (we have already seen about 30 of them working at Sochi 2014) a Sherpa has been used in Holmenkollen for spreading salt to consolidate the snow smoothened because of the warm temperatures. The need to guarantee good ski trails in every weather condition has been satisfied by setting-up a special version of the Alpina Transalp trailer, hosting a large capacity automatic salt spreader. The huge pulling power of the Sherpa, as well as its low track’s specific pressure, allow to drive along the trails and salt the snow between races without damaging the snow layer. The capability of the Sherpa to pull hard without damaging the snow layer has been appreciated during Sochi nordic competitions too, where some Sherpas have been working at “Laura Biathlon and XC Ski Center” during the olympic competitions, grooming and packing the new fresh snow accumulated on the trails.
